Do you have heel spurs, foot pain or shin splints? How about hip, knee or lower back pain? Or just tired, aching legs? These are all common conditions that can be caused by our feet.
Everyday as we walk on hard, flat surfaces, our bodies are subjected to many stresses and strains. Because hard, concrete surfaces offer no support to the arches of the feet, in up to 80% of the population our feet roll inwards causing the arches to flatten, known as ‘excessive pronation’. Our feet, ankles, legs and back try to compensate, but the excess pressure on muscles and bones can contribute to a range of complaints such as:
By correcting the body’s alignment (‘biomechanics’) at its foundation, ie the feet, it is possible to relieve the pain and discomfort associated with these conditions.
Most podiatrist made orthotics are made of hard, high density materials that whilst structurally hold your foot in the ideal position, provide little ‘give’ to the tissues in your foot. This often results in sore, aching arches, blisters and calluses. We prefer to use heat moulding, dual density EVA orthotics that have the strength to control pronation, but allow for greater comfort. We custom mould them to suit your foot and footwear.
One of the most common complaints about orthotics we hear is that they are impractical to wear in most shoes (especially for ladies!). At Waverton Physio, we offer a range of styles that can suit all people, including some specifically designed for high heels. Your physio will discuss the best option for you during your consultation.
At Sydney Physio Group, we believe in getting you back to your full potential as quickly as possible. Our highly skilled and passionate physios will work with you to achieve your goals, no matter how big or small.
