Orthotics

Do you have heel spurs, foot pain or shin splints? How about hip, knee or lower back pain? Or just tired, aching legs? These are all common conditions that can be caused by our feet.

Everyday as we walk on hard, flat surfaces, our bodies are subjected to many stresses and strains. Because hard, concrete surfaces offer no support to the arches of the feet, in up to 80% of the population our feet roll inwards causing the arches to flatten, known as ‘excessive pronation’. Our feet, ankles, legs and back try to compensate, but the excess pressure on muscles and bones can contribute to a range of complaints such as:

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel spurs
  • Low back pain
  • Shin splints
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Growth related conditions such as Osgood-Schlatters and Severs.
  • ‘Runners knee’ and other knee pain.

By correcting the body’s alignment (‘biomechanics’) at its foundation, ie the feet, it is possible to relieve the pain and discomfort associated with these conditions.
